Iron_Man_GameWell now that Robert Downey Jr. has managed to bring Iron Man to life on the big screen and director Jon Favreu is busy putting the finishing touches on the second movie, it’s time to take a look at the Iron Man game that came out recently.

In the game, you will become the snarky and smooth talking Tony Stark (aka Iron Man). He is a multi billionaire who runs a successful corporation, the Stark Corp. together with his bodacious assistant, Pepper Potts (played by Gwyneth Paltrow in the film). Tony builds himself a suit of Iron which allow him a great many super hero powers. With his suit, he has the ability to fly (always a useful thing for a super-hero, after all they need to get places fast), blast repulsor rays (kind of like laser beams or maybe even a Star Trek style phaser?), and of course he can hurl ICBM missiles with ease (well hey, he’s got to have that ability too, I mean what if he needs to start a war or something?).

In all seriousness though, the game is actually a pretty cool adaptation of the movie and one that provides for pretty smooth game play. The weapons Iron Man was able to use in the demo were fairly generic… standard tanks, SAMs (surface-to-air missiles), and anti-air guns.

His main weapons however will be the aforementioned repulsor rays, which are shot either from his palms or from a node on his chest. The repulsor rays are definitely the more powerful of his weapons, however you should be aware that they will drain significantly more energy so you need to be careful in your use of them.

In the Iron Man game, Iron Man also has the ability to grab incoming missiles and hurl them back the way they came, basically creating the ultimate missile defense system (Barack Obama should be in touch to look into options for the European Missile Defense system). Iron Man can also “hover” or “fly.” The two abilities are kept separate and pretty much work the way you might think they would work, allowing him to stand above a single location like a helicopter or to fly somewhere else in a hurry. He also has super-speed, however that does reduce his maneuverability.

The Iron Man game is available in several formats including X-Box, Play Station 2 and Windows XP.
